In terms of genre, it is a classic detective story with strong visual period elements.
The story is set in 16th-century Prague — a time when new natural sciences such as astronomy, physics, and chemistry are spectacularly emerging. But also astrology, alchemy, and other pseudosciences flourish. Prague is a paradise on Earth for all passionate scholars, but also for swindlers and fraudsters of every kind.
The successful development of this project, especially the work on the script for the pilot episode, the treatment of the single episodes and the set-up of the series, was supported by the European Union.
